Camel brand has an interesting history, the Camel caricature on the pack of the brand is considered to be of Egyptian origin, but Turkish archives is of the opinion that it's the symbol of gratitude to Turkish from Americans for their donation of 34 camels to American Army in 1854. But a study found that the Joe Camel image and message attracted kids more than other cartoon figures like Mickey Mouse and Popeye. After several warnings and appeals the makers of this brand agreed to adopt a more adult oriented promotional campaign. One of the promotional slogans released by Camel cigarettes are "the Camels are coming" which was similar to an old Scottish song, "The Campbells are coming." This promotional campaign was an attempt to influence public opinion that coincided with the United States' entry into World War I, and later World War II.
